Description
Almost all workplaces are now reliant on electrical equipment, which means a career in Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) can be a lucrative and stable decision. This Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) course will teach you about the tasks that are involved with PAT and how you can stay safe when testing electrical equipment.
The course begins by introducing you to PAT and summarising some of the risks that are involved and the relevant legislation, after which you learn about risk assessments and the five steps to identifying and evaluating risks and recording and implementing your findings. This unit also covers the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases, and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013.
Next, you will be given a closer look at how to reduce and control the risks of PAT, which includes choosing and inspecting the right equipment, pre-use checks, using and storing equipment safely, fire safety, and how to react to emergency procedures. Finally, you will learn about testing itself, general testing tips, the different types of tests, such as Class I (earthed), Class II (double insulated) and earth leakage, how to test your own equipment and IEC and extension leads. This last module also teaches you how to respond safely to equipment failure.
Understanding how to be thorough with Portable Appliance Testing is important for anyone who is responsible for health and safety management in low-risk workplaces such as offices. This course provides you with the latest accurate advice and information so you can take your career to the next level, and even consider undergoing practical PAT training.
